Emergency Preparedness for Radiological, Biological,

and Chemical Terrorism: Hospital Response

COURSE DESCRIPTION

As U.S. citizens and healthcare workers, all of us are very concerned about the possibility of a radiological, chemical, or biological emergency. Most experts believe that it is not a matter of “if,” but “when.” Unfortunately, many hospitals and healthcare organizations have disaster plans that either don’t deal with these kinds of events at all, or do so inadequately. This half-day seminar, sponsored by Consultants in Nuclear Medicine, is designed to provide vital information to nuclear medicine physicians and radiologists, emergency room directors, hospital administrators, nursing directors, radiology/nuclear medicine technologists, and other hospital based personnel responsible for emergency preparedness. It provides state-of-the-art advice by respected experts in the field, all faculty members at Loyola University Medical Center, and helps your hospital to prepare for these types of events. Included are basic knowledge regarding the types of events that could take place, plans and drawings for designing appropriate facilities to deal with the emergency, advice on triage of patients contaminated with any of the above hazardous materials, and a historical perspective of events that have taken place in the recent past. There will be a Q & A session following each lecture.

CONTINUING EDUCATION CREDIT

For nuclear medicine and radiology technologists: Application has been submitted to the VOICE Program of the Society of Nuclear Medicine for 5.0 CE hours of VOICE Credit; recognized by the NMTCB, the ARRT, the US Nuclear Regulatory Commission and all state departments of nuclear safety.
